Anytime we
focus obsessively inwards on one emotional experience, we begin to enter an
alternate reality; the more intense that experience is, and the more intensely
we focus on it, the more exaggerated our perception of our real situation may
become. A kind of myopic filter descends on our view of life, one element
becoming blazingly clear as everything else becomes fuzzy and distorted. Such
moments and such experiences can produce a range of sensations which
alternately, and sometimes simultaneously, attract and then repulse us.
